Free online assistance requires some reading...CFAS has a high success rate in answering / resolving your question / problem the first time.  Sometimes the problem can be resolved by you (the end user) saving you time and money.

How many tech supports, customer services or support groups have you contacted and gotten a response in a timely manner resolving your issue?  With over 25 years computer experience, I know and understand the frustrations associated with computers, technical support, customer service, knowledge bases, etc.  If you feel your problem/question is important enough to have found this site, then I wish to be of assistance.

I promote Security and offer computer knowledge and information to help educate / advise the enduser.  However I encounter the human element/nature called "idonotlistenitis" or "followadviceitis" syndrome more often than not.  And many times feel why waste my time in answering questions/offering my experience and assistance.

For computers under warranty, please contact that computer technical support for assistance.

Problems with software/applications or peripherals such as mouse, keyboard, printer, monitor, scanner, external Zip drive or other external drive, please contact that vendor/manufacture.

I do not know every make and model of computer or peripherals, software and hardware made.  Just as I do not know you as an individual, your level of computers and experience or the working history with glitches, installs & removals, how used as you would as the end-user on a day to day basis.  Lack of information, would be cause for delay in receiving a reply or not at all.  So knowing how important resolve is, is useful by answering questions of extreme importance i.e. Questions 1-4 and 6 & 7 if you so chose in seeking my assistance.

Some issues/problems are user related and not knowing your level of experience and knowledge of how computers work, to install/replace software/hardware or how this/these computer is/are configured, which components have been installed or replaced by you or someone other than a certified technician or the manufacture, if involving software the name, manufacture and version, any system changes affecting the registry/configuration prior to this problem, or if this problem is networked related, the topography, settings, addresses, recent updates that could be the cause, Internet usage if downloading files or received a Trojan virus, etc.

I do not know your computers particular history or behavior, what are of the following  applicable if's

1) whether you are the original owner

2) bought new or used,

3) has had repairs, replacement parts

4) how carried/handled, if dropped

5) environmentally/mother nature which may have affected or caused an electrical surge, lighting, rain/water or other form of damage

I may not have a definitive answer solving your problem(s).

Recommendations

Make sure you have all current Microsoft Updates (critical security and service packs), if running Anti-virus / spyware software, they are current with updates and full system scans have been accomplished.  Another useful troubleshooting tool for a technician is System Information data, saved as a file and sent.  To view http://www.computer-firstaid.com/systeminformation.html  System Information provides information about your Computer, Processor, RAM/Memory, BIOS make and version, history of changes to your systems configuration, installed programs or devices/hardware and any device or driver conflicts, etc.  No personal information is gathered in this file.

Important Reminders/Suggestions:

  • Stay current with Microsoft Updates for all installed Microsoft's software - http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/muoptdefault.aspx
  • Make sure you have installed AntiVirus software and current with updates of its virus definition library and run frequent system scans.
  • Install AntiSpyware and scan frequently - Microsoft's Free AntiSpyware - http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
  • Stay current with Software & Device Driver updates
  • If backing up your system (highly recommended), scan prior to backing up with AntiVirus and Spyware first.  If not backing up entire system and settings, it is suggested to at least backup files created by installed software.  You can always re-install software, not files if lost/unrecoverable or catastrophic hard drive failure.
  • System Information provides information about your Computer, Processor, RAM/Memory, BIOS make and version, documents history, changes of your systems configuration, installed programs, devices, etc.  This information is very helpful when contacting a Technician. http://www.computer-firstaid.com/systeminformation.html
