Brief Summary
Magic Jack is a USB phone jack, you plug a house phone into
MagicJack, MagicJack is plugged into your PC and you can make phone
calls for Free anywhere in the USA and Canada for free through your
computer. And you can take it with you wherever you go and make
calls from your laptop or another PC with High Speed Internet
connection NOT dial-up.
The device cost $35-50, and includes first year, each
year after is only $20 a year....so while on the computer, you can
make and receive calls, saving on the Cell phone calls or a Home
phone line, if you still have one. Naturally if you turn off your
computer, this service is not usable. So someone can save $500-1000
or more a year off their home or cell phone bill...so read on and I
put one review of a Guy in CA who calls the Philippines for Free and
how he does it. I shall put up a web page on my site, to explain
the following in the future.

The following is My research, watching
video clips, reading the reviews and currently using my MagicJack.
MagicJack, I watched a couple YouTube videos and this Review at
http://www.infonotmercial.com/magic-jack-review.html and I
am sold, since recently I dropped our home land-line service to save
money...however in order to have DSL/Internet High Speed, I need a
phone line, so Qwest gives you a DSL number for Internet use only
and my wired & wireless router is plugged into.
And although MagicJack states the following
Free Local & Long Distance (USA & Canada), directory assistance,
free phone number, call waiting, voice-mail (Voicemail
is stored on the magicJack servers, and is delivered via email), and caller id...to use
it...you must have DSL or Cable access, not dial-up and so you are
paying for Internet Service and the initial fee to buy this USB
adapter MagicJack costs includes first year free and $20 a year
thereafter.
Cons: your call maybe dropped, depending on the noise of the
Internet, the call may not be all that clear, and you have to leave
your computer on to receive/make calls.
* Poor customer service, technical support by web only
* May Conflict with other hardware, software
Pros: a whole lot less than a home phone or cell...plus you can
store your call information and numbers and use this USB device on
any computer with Internet Access that is not dial-up. So if you
have a laptop, you can call from any where there is wireless service
or you can plug into the Internet (RJ45).
Another Pro....you do not need a home phone (cordless/wireless) to
make a call, I use a headset with boom mic.
This company is growing, so who knows where it will go in the future
and the pop-up window for the software may have additional adds in
the future.
So I just ordered mine through Amazon.com for $33+shipping. Order
Grand Total: $37.99, which is still less than ordering from
MagicJack.com
I personally see a need, there are calls we can make while on the
computer and receive, turning off our cell phone while online...as I
am on my computer 8-16 hours a day x 7....and when not on my
computer, doing chores outside or gone to the store I have my
cell....however the MagicJack will receive calls, 4th ring answer
(something you cannot change, how many rings before the software
answers) and MagicJack takes messages and can send them to your
e-mail too.
And if you are working and they do not mind, plug in MagicJack on
your work computer too.
So the MagicJack does not matter if you use MAC or a PC either. And
I am not sure if someone on Skype, were to call your MagicJack
number, the Skype user would be charged or not. Before you buy, if
you have not already, make sure it handles your area code.

The MJ (MagicJack)
to MJ calls would be free to another country - read the following
review
Can make overseas calls for free but.....,
August 5, 2009
I was reluctant to purchase Magic Jack at first
thinking this was a scam. After receiving rave reviews from several
of my friends who purchased the product, I figure I had nothing to
lose. I purchased 3… devices, kept
one for myself and sent 2 to my relatives in the Philippines. Yes
folks, from the U.S. to that part of the world. I registered 2 of
the devices with the same area code, 757, and the other in
California, area code 949. I found out MJ to MJ calls are of course
free, but also LANDLINE OR CELL PHONES TO MAGIC JACK WITH THE SAME
AREA CODE ARE ALSO FREE!( USA to Philippines ) The audio quality was
great calling from a internet cable connection to a DSL connection,
that is from the US to the Philippines. No drop calls. In fact, I
was using a 2nd handset cordless phone. Now others may have mixed
reviews but based on my experience, so far, I'm satisfied with it.
And for $35-50 1st year and $20 a year after, WOW, you have to be
saving some bucks and if any thing, a back up to your cell phone and
you can drop the home phone service. What about faxing, you can fax
from a computer too.
